Ogden, Ep. 4

October 12, 2024 — For the fourth time in five years, Literary Death Match returned to Ogden, Utah, once again partnering with the Utah Humanities Book Festival for an electrifying night at Happy Magpie Book and Quillthat saw Matty Layne GlasgowdefeatMarilyn Melissa Salguero in a tight game of One Star Wonder that won Glasgow the LDM Ogden, Ep. 4 crown and literary immortality, too.

ALL-STAR JUDGES: 

Literary Merit: Patrick Ramsay, queer poet, author of the debut poetry chapbook, Butterflies are Rare in Beehives, and owner of the indie bookshop Happy Magpie Book & Quill. Find him on Instagram at @writepatrick

Performance: Dorie Guerra, podcaster and co-host of Bourbon, Beer, and Books, by night she’s a paranormal investigator, and a mistress of the macabre, with an ardent love of horror movies and serving an unhealthy dose of sarcasm and dark humor

Intangibles: Todd Oberndorfer, Visual Arts Coordinator for the Salt Lake City Arts Council, co-founder of The Banyan Collective and co-host of Ogden Arts & Adventure podcast and Van Sessions, a live-audience podcast and music series

* Zachary Gomez, poet and fiction writer whose poetry can be found in B O D Y Literature journal. He holds a BA from Weber State where he majored in creative writing and minored in zoology

* Matty Layne Glasgow, author of deciduous qween, winner of the Benjamin Saltman Award. His poetry and nonfiction can be found in Ecotone, Gulf Coast, Kenyon Review and elsewhere. A Black Earth Institute Fellow, he recently co-edited About Place Journal’s "Strange Wests" issue

* Marilyn Melissa Salguero, Guatemalan poet, educator, 2020 nominee for the Pushcart Prize in poetry, and her upcoming chapbook, Blister, was recognized as an Honorable Mention in the Alta California Chapbook Prize for 2023. She co-founded the Plumas Colectiva, a powerhouse of Latine creators
