Sacramento, Ep. 2

October 11, 2024 — In our grand return, Literary Death Match is back in Sacramento once again teamed with the brillianteurs at Stories on Stage Sacramento for a blazingly bright night of lit, wit, whimsy that saw Kellie Raines narrowly outduel co-finalist Lisa Bunker in a down-to-the-wire Lone Star Lit finale, winning Raines the LDM Sacramento, Ep. 2 crown and literary immortality to go with it. 

Here's the full lineup from the night: 

ALL-STAR JUDGES: 

Literary Merit: Naomi J. Williams, author of Landfalls, long-listed for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and the National Book Critics Circle’s John Leonard Award

Performance: Ian Cullity, theater actor who has performed at the Las Vegas production of Mamma Mia! In his free time, he teaches a children's acting class at Musical Mayhem Productions

Intangibles: Clare Frank, author of the memoir Burnt: A Memoir of Fighting Fire, she started firefighting at 17 and became the state’s first and only female Chief of Fire Protection

Round 1: 
Stan Zumbiel, poet, author of Hat Full of Leaves and Standing Watch, he served on the board of the Sacramento Poetry Center for 25 years

Kellie Raines, theatre actor, writer, director, visual artist and producer/host of A Gather of Gatherings podcast

Round 2:
Andrés Reséndez, is author of The Other Slavery, a finalist for the National Book Award and the winner of the 2017 Bancroft Prize, and Conquering the Pacific. He's a professor of history at UC Davis

Lisa Bunker, author of Almond, Quartz, and Finch, She Persisted: Rachel Levine and Felix Yz, they've also represented the town of Exeter in the New Hampshire House of Representatives
