LA, Ep. 1

The pilot episode of Literary Death Match LA at Cinespace was a diverse showcase that finished with a Hollywood ending, as The Nervous Breakdown's Rich Ferguson out-dueled Hyperion's Joshua Lyon in a stellar gun-fueled match of "Adapted or Original?" Ferguson pulled off the win by a score of 11-9 to become Los Angeles' first Literary Death Match Champion.

Chicago, Ep. 3

Literary Death Match Chicago, Ep. 3 at the Printer’s Ball in the universe-famous Ludington Building was a night of many firsts! For starters, it was the most stage-populated LDM in history as it brought together a record eight readers (trumping Chicago, Ep. 1’s six), in an blockbuster poetry-off that ended with THE2NDHAND's Spencer Dew belting a stunned Michael Czyzniejewski of ACM (Another Chicago Magazine) in a Chicago Author’s Face Guess-Off that Dew won by a startling 5-1 to become the LDM champion.

NYC, Ep. 16

Just about everyone who attended Literary Death Match NYC, Ep. 16 stood together afterward in the little restaurant-room at the front of the Bowery Poetry Club and agreed: Episode 16 was a
readymade classic. As per usual, three notable New Yorkers sat in judgment of four brilliant readers, who competed for the coveted LDM champion's medal.  But at the end of Ep. 16

University, Ep. 1 (Syracuse)

The first-ever campus-based LDM (LDM University, Ep. 1 @ Syracuse) was a shock-good affair that saw a Jordanesque Roy Kesey out-recycle-bottle-basketball his co-finalist Dan Roche by a final score of 3-0 to take home the sacred Literary Death Match medallion.

NYC, Ep. 14

Pianos was packed with a plenitude of people for Literary Death Match NYC Ep. 14, a brilliant affair that finished with a stirring game of the LDM original “Poet v. Madman.” After racing to an 8-8 tie at the end of regulation, Michael Muhammad Knight snared victory by guessing that the night’s final, mystery poet had 13 letters in his name, while Rivka Galchen guessed 24. The answer: Giuseppe Ungaretti (17). And Knight was crowned the newest LDM champ by NYC Ep. 13 B.C. Edwards.

Boston, Ep. 1

May 21, 2009—LDM Boston Ep. 1 at The Paradise Lounge was a mess of poor lighting, corrupted microphone, and a battle of the guitar-banging bands a doorway away. And yet. Amongst the whirl of near-disaster, it proved that prettily written prose, when properly performed, is rife with absolute might, and we count the Beantown debut, ultimately, as a success. The wild night finished with Stuff Boston's Jeannie Greeley out-Lit-Tea-Partying co-finalist Steve Almond en route to Massachusetts' first-ever LDM crown.
