September 10, 2022 — After a foolishly-long six year absence, Literary Death Match returned to the Windy City, partnering with StoryStudio Chicago and Printers Row Lit Fest for a late-afternoon gem that saw Diana Slickman claim narrow victory over Mikki Kendall in an Original or Adapted? finale that won Slickman the LDM Chicago, Ep. 11 crown, and literary immortality to go with it.

Chicago, Ep. 10

September 27, 2016 — In a sterling return, Literary Death Match wound back through Chicago for a night at Subterranean that saw Vu Tran outduel co-finalist Nnedi Okorafor in a hotly-contested Quiz of Death battle by a score of 16-12, winning Tran the LDM Chicago, Ep. 10 crown, and literary immortality to go with it.

Chicago, Ep. 9

March 10, 2016 — As part of our global 10-Year Celebration, Literary Death Match returned to the Windy City for our debut at iO Chicago for a night of lit and wit stars that ended with Erika L. Sanchez outdueling Tim "Toaster" Henderson in a fierce Literary Spelling Bee III battle that won Sanchez the LDM Chicago, Ep. 9 crown.

Chicago, Ep. 8

November 21, 2013 — After an awful-long absence, Literary Death Match returned to the House that Sandburg Built — and more specifically the Empty Bottle — for a night of Windy City brilliance that saw Lindsay Hunter outduel Danielle Susi in a Lone Star Lit finale by a score of 43-40 to win Hunter the LDM Chicago, Ep. 8 crown.

Chicago, Ep. 7 (at AWP)

March 2, 2012 — In what's being called the "Greatest LDM Ever" (presented by Versal and Painted Bride Quarterly) a superstar-laden celebration of our 200th event at Buddy Guy's Legends culminated in a wild finish, which included the first-ever stripping of the LDM medal, before the night ended with Roxane Gay (author of Ayiti) toppling National Book Critics Circle finalist Major Jackson in the Literary Spelling Bee sudden death, to win by the narrowest of margins.

June 7, 2011 — In a stand-up-and-cheer finale for the ages at The HideoutIan Belknap was clutch when it mattered, slam-dunking a picture of Max Brod to win a dramatic, basketball-style game of Down with Book Burners!, outsniping co-finalist Samantha Irby 5-4 to win the Literary Death Match crown.

January 14, 2010—A wild finish, a wilder foursome of readers, and genius judging highlighted Literary Death Match Chicago, Ep. 4 at Fizz, in which featherproof booksJames Kennedy (The Order of Odd-Fish) outdoodled &NOW’s Davis Schneidermanin a hurried and competitive finale of Draw the Judges in 20 Seconds Or Less with Sharpies! — to take home the Literary Death Match medal and be ceremoniously crowned by Ep. 3 winner Spencer Dew.

Chicago, Ep. 3

Literary Death Match Chicago, Ep. 3 at the Printer’s Ball in the universe-famous Ludington Building was a night of many firsts! For starters, it was the most stage-populated LDM in history as it brought together a record eight readers (trumping Chicago, Ep. 1’s six), in an blockbuster poetry-off that ended with THE2NDHAND's Spencer Dew belting a stunned Michael Czyzniejewski of ACM (Another Chicago Magazine) in a Chicago Author’s Face Guess-Off that Dew won by a startling 5-1 to become the LDM champion.

Chicago, Ep. 2

The Literary Death Match Chicago Ep. 2 at Pilcrow Fest proved a triumphant return to the Windy City, as four of the city’s top reader series battled to take home the LDM crown. After the smoke (and ill mathematics) cleared, Jill Summers (Orange Alert) out-looooooooooooong divisioned co-finalist Bobby Biedrzycki (2nd Story) to claim victory.
