LA, Ep. 16

November 7, 2012 — On a whimsy-filled night before a jam-packed and wildly enthusiastic Busby’s East crowd, the LA lovers of lit witnessed Tracy McMillan outduel co-finalist Antoine Wilson in a Name That Literary Tune finale by a final score of 10-6 to win the LDM LA, Ep. 16 crown.

You know what's crazier than Homosapial Metamorphosis? Nothing! That's not even a thing, really, but it is now since it happened onstage at Busby's East last night, during LDM LA Ep. 16, when comedienne Maria Bamford turned into Dexter's Michael C. Hall. For real.

The crowd was in boisterous spirits as the show kicked off, high on love and Obama juice. In the first round, actress/writer/really famous redhead Molly Ringwald was joined onstage by the riotously funny Joe Wengert, and, in a twist of fate and science, that other famous redhead, MCH. Round one readers Antoine Wilson (author of Panorama City and The Interloper) and Adam Novy (The Avian Gospels), two reading-is-sexy novelists with seriously bad-ass outfits, took turns reading their respective sequels to the Bible (note: Novy and Wilson have alarmingly different ideas about Creation). Ringwald (author of When It Happens to You: A Novel in Stories) said that both readers hooked her, Hall and Wengert argued over whether Antoine's pants were circus-peanut-pink or orange sherbet, and in the end, Wilson was victorious.

Round two featured the second human-->human morph as Hall, né Maria Bamford, became LDM alumn and fiction goddess Amelia Gray, judging our two female freedom fighters, Tracy McMillan (author of Why You’re Not Married…Yet) and Shawna Kenney (author of the Firecracker Award-winning memoir, I Was a Teenage Dominatrix, and Imposters). Kenney wowed the audience with tantalizing tales from her time as a professional dominatrix, while McMillan cracked them up with her reportage from the front lines of couples counseling. It was a tough call, but the judges swayed toward McMillan's style of cringy 'cause it's true.

Finally, LDM host and utter madman Adrian Todd Zuniga split the booze infused crowd in half for an epic Name That Literary Tune finale, with Team McMillan defeating Team Wilson by a score of 10-6, making McMillan LDM's newest (and best dressed, may we add) Champion, winning literary immortality to go with her LDM medal.
