September's Literary Death Match SF marked was a night to remember at Elbo Room, as Tracy Clark-Flory—pitted against finalist Genie Grotto—took home the LDM crown in a ferociously heated game of Literary Beer Pong.
Bras were flying, fists were cuffing, and harmonicas were wailing at LDM SF Episode XI. And that was just the first performance, during which Litquake’s Kim Addonizio read her poems, unbound her breasts and knuckles, and blew on her mouth harp. Kim went on not only to win Round 1, but also to stomp out Round 2’s winner in the final challenge: a full-body audience-participation scavenger hunt.
Opium’s Literary Death Match kicked off in San Francisco at Harlot with a huge bang, as Sam Hurwitt (Kitchen Sink) wowed the world--or at least the 160 onlookers--by toppling Canteen’s Joyce Maynard in a breathtaking game of Stab a Hole in Nebraska. Joyce’s joust sunk well south of the target, while Hurwitt stabbed a hole into Shenendoah, Iowa, just miles clear of the Nebraska state line.
